Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)

Meet Christy Lane:

Inner healing is allowing God to reveal areas where we have believed lies about ourselves or Him, allowing Him to heal hurts or traumatic events, and replacing those areas with His truth.

When is inner healing something you might want to pursue?  If you feel trapped in hopelessness, anxiety, sin, or addiction.  If you have emotions, thought patterns, and reactions to people or events, you don’t know how to deal with or control them.  Are past traumas causing emotional barriers?  Do you feel separated or unable to get close to God or others?

Only the Holy Spirit knows the origins of your lack of understanding, pain, or frustration. Inner healing brings God’s perspective on your life and a fresh encounter with His love. Its purpose is to heal your connection to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and help you better understand your identity and the purpose to which you have been called.

My prayer is to sow seeds of encouragement into your life and empower you to see the precious gift you are to God and others.

What is “inner healing?”

How do we at CrossPointe church, define inner healing? This term has many connotations, some amazing and others a bit off. Understanding what we mean when we talk about leading people into freedom and inner healing is essential. At CrossPointe, this term is not some “wo-wo” hyper-spiritual phraseology. What we mean when we talk about inner healing or freedom is biblical.

  1. We are fallen and separated from our Creator because of sin. (Isaiah 59:2, Jeremiah 17:9, Romans 3:9-18, 23)

  2. Only Jesus saves us from our sins! (John 3:16, 1 John 1:9)

  3. All power and glory go to Jesus Christ! No single person has the power to manifest anything. God is the creator and has authority over all things. He is omnipotent and sovereign over all life on earth. Without His grace and hand of mercy, we would have nothing of eternal things, namely salvation and a heavenly inheritance.

  4. Healing happens in a community that is led by and empowered by the Holy Spirit!

“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed (contrite) in spirit.”

Psalm 34:18

"Brokenhearted" is translated from the Hebrew word "shabar," which means to break or shatter. This term paints a vivid picture of emotional and spiritual brokenness akin to a heart crushed by grief or despair. In biblical times, the heart was seen as the center of one's emotions and will. Thus, being brokenhearted signifies a deep, inner suffering. The promise that God is near to such individuals highlights His compassion and desire to heal and restore those who are deeply wounded.

How does this healing happen? Healing happens in community! Once you are saved, you have been given eternal life, but your past may still hold power over you. Your traumas and experiences have left a mark on your soul as the Psalmist so eloquently show us. Your soul is your mind, will, and emotions; these are internal things, or in biblical understanding, “heart,” thus the term inner, or internal healing.

Notice James’ words below:

Is anyone among you is suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.  And the prayer of faith will save the sick and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another and pray for one another that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

James 5:13-16

James directs us to… “confess your sins to each other AND pray for one another that you may be healed.” God is near to the brokenhearted, and God, by His design, uses His people to minister in compassion, understanding, restoration, and freedom. There is great healing when we sit with each other, confess our sins, expose our pain, and surrender to the tender working of the Holy Spirit as ministered through his people. This calling and passion is what CrossPointe is all about, and this is inner healing.
